Mushroomhead - Savior Sorrow

When I first heard the latest CD from these masked musicians, I didn't get into since it just sounded so raw. But after a while, it grew on me and now I think this has to be one of their best albums to date and one of the best I've heard all year.
Like I said previously, the sound on the CD is really raw, like straight out of the rehersal space type raw, with a heavy emphasis on the guitars which almost drown out the sound of everything else. It even took a while before I noticed some of the electronics in the songs too. But the whole things comes together really well and I definately recommend checking this one out.

(hed) PE - Back 2 Base X

After the really dissapointing "Only In America" album last year, which was nothing more than a left and right swear-fest, (hed)PE return to the sound that made them great, as in the title, they went back to basics! (hed)PE could best be described as "Linkin Park with Balls", as they can do a good job of molding rap, rock, punk & raggae all in to one and do a good job of it too.
Unlike the really directionless "Only In America", "Back 2 Base X" seems more natural and sincere in it's delivery. And the bottomline is they go about it having fun at the same time too with a bunch of snappy fun tracks "Lock & Load" and "Beware Do We Go". As well as the must hear track "Novus Ordus Clitoros". All the things that made them fun to listen to in the first place, and definately recommended.

Kurt and Courtney (DVD)

So I watched this one recently and it really doesn't answer anything at all about whether or not Courtney Love had Kurt Cobain killed to prevent him from divorcing her and cutting off her meal ticket to fame. The documentary does paint a picture of Courtney being a control freak and somewhat of an egomaniac two-headed snake, bashing the press when she was a junkie, and embracing them now that she's trying to be a big Hollywood star. It also was rather hypocritical of the foundation that advocates free speech to cut off the guy when he confronted them at their annual dinner.
It also does make you wonder regarding the circumstances behind Kurt's death that he had in inhuman amount of cocaine in his blood when he died, and it would have been enough alone to kill him as he wouldn't have had the time to even pick up the gun and blow his head off before he OD'd.
Still, there isn't a whole lot to this one other than learning a bit about Kurt Cobain's past, growing up and founding the grunge movement with Nirvana. Whether it's fact or just a conspiracy, you be the judge.
